Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Chimney Company in North Las Vegas, NV
Chimney work in North Las Vegas has to account for three things most other cities don’t face: mid-century ranch homes with original masonry fireplaces, high-desert winds that shove debris into open flues, and hard Colorado River water that makes creosote cling harder to clay tile liners. We’re Ruben Castellano’s team at Alcott Chimney Las Vegas, and we handle sweeping, inspection, and gas fireplace repair across North Las Vegas. Every job starts with a written price before work begins, and every technician who arrives at your door has already sent you their name and photo. Call (725) 227-7352 if you’d like to talk through what your chimney needs.
Why North Las Vegas Homes Are Different
Most North Las Vegas housing stock dates from the 1950s through the 1980s – single-story ranch homes built fast during the valley’s postwar expansion. Many still have their original masonry fireplaces, and a lot of those flues are unlined or lined with clay tile that’s now 40 to 70 years old. Clay tile cracks. It spalls. It lets heat reach framing that was never meant to get hot. The Mojave summer doesn’t help: days above 105°F expand chimney masonry, winter nights near freezing contract it, and over 30 or 40 years that cycle opens hairline cracks that let moisture and exhaust gas through.
Then there’s the wind. North Las Vegas sits in open desert with few natural windbreaks, so spring and early summer bring sustained winds that drive sand, twigs, and roofing debris straight into uncapped chimneys. A lot of older North Las Vegas chimneys never got caps or spark arrestors when they were built. In neighborhoods like Rose Garden and Windsor Park, we routinely pull house sparrow and European starling nests out of flues after windy springs – birds find an open clay tile flue and treat it like a cliff cavity. That’s not a rare find. It’s common enough that we expect to see it on at least a third of first-time sweeps in those areas.
The water matters too. North Las Vegas gets its supply from the Colorado River, which is hard water by any standard. When wood burns, the moisture in the fuel and the minerals in that water vapor combine inside the flue and help creosote bond to the liner surface. Creosote is the tar-like residue that builds up in a wood-burning chimney, and it’s the primary fuel for chimney fires. In a soft-water climate, creosote flakes off more readily. Here, it tends to glaze. That means even a chimney that looks fine from the firebox can be carrying a combustible coating halfway up the flue.

Our Main North Las Vegas Services
These are the three jobs North Las Vegas homeowners call us about most. Each service has its own dedicated page with pricing details and a deeper look at what’s involved.
Chimney Sweep in North Las Vegas
A sweep in North Las Vegas is rarely just a brush through the flue. Older ranch homes here often have creosote that has glazed onto the clay tile liner, meaning a standard wire brush won’t cut it – we use rotary cleaning heads with carbide teeth to break the glaze without gouging the tile underneath. High winds mean more debris than you’d see elsewhere in the valley, so we routinely clear twigs, sand, and the occasional bird nest before we even start on the creosote. A full sweep of a wood-burning fireplace in North Las Vegas usually runs around 45 to 90 minutes depending on how long it’s been since the last cleaning. All details are on the Chimney Sweep in North Las Vegas page.

Chimney Inspection in North Las Vegas
Because so many North Las Vegas chimneys date from the 1950s through the 1980s and were built with clay tile liners, an inspection here often turns up things a newer home wouldn’t: cracked flue tiles, missing mortar joints, and spalling brick from decades of thermal cycling. Some local HOAs require a recent inspection before you can sell, and home insurers are increasingly asking for level 2 video scans on older properties. We run a camera down the flue and give you photos of exactly what we see, so you’re not taking our word for anything. The full scope is on the Chimney Inspection in North Las Vegas page.

Gas Fireplace Repair in North Las Vegas
Gas fireplaces don’t produce creosote, but they have their own failure patterns in this climate. Desert dust gets into burner ports and pilot assemblies, thermocouples and thermopiles wear out, and the intense summer heat can degrade gaskets and seals faster than coastal climates. Many North Las Vegas homes have gas log sets or direct-vent inserts installed into fireboxes originally built for wood, and we service all of the major brands. If your pilot won’t stay lit or the burner flames look yellow and lazy, that’s a combustion or venting issue worth addressing before the season turns. More detail is on the Gas Fireplace Repair in North Las Vegas page.
