Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Olympia Chimney Crown Repair: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
If you have an Olympia Chimney system and the crown is cracked, spalling, or pulling away from the flue, we stock the correct repair materials and can usually get this fixed the same week we inspect it. Crown repair on an Olympia chimney in Las Vegas typically runs $350 – $900 installed, depending on the crown’s size, how far the damage has spread, and whether we’re doing a full recast or a partial repair. Most Las Vegas homeowners discover the problem the hard way: water staining on the ceiling near the firebox, chunks of concrete on the roof after a wind storm, or a chimney inspection that flags the crown before the damage travels further down.
We’re Alcott Chimney Las Vegas, and we’ve been doing chimney repair in the Las Vegas Valley for well over a decade. We work with Olympia Chimney products regularly, and we’re an independent service provider, not an Olympia Chimney dealer or affiliate. That matters because we’ll always give you a straight answer about whether a genuine Olympia part is worth the markup for your situation or a professional-grade equivalent will do the same job for less.
Which Olympia Chimney Models This Applies To
Olympia Chimney makes a range of factory-built fireplace and chimney systems, and most of the crown issues we see out here involve their newer modular chase-top assemblies and the pre-cast concrete crowns used on masonry conversions. The part that fails is rarely the firebox itself. It’s the crown: the concrete or mortar slab that sits on top of the chimney and seals the gap between the flue tile and the outer masonry.
We stock Olympia-compatible crown forms, flexible crown-coat sealants, and the right mix for a full recast on most common sizes, including the 13″ x 13″ and 13″ x 18″ flue dimensions you’ll find on many Olympia systems in Summerlin, Henderson, and the older neighborhoods around downtown Las Vegas. If you can find your model number on the metal tag inside the firebox door or on the chase cover, that helps us match the form before we even arrive. If the tag is gone, which happens all the time on units over 15 years old, our technicians take field measurements and match the crown to the flue dimensions and what’s left of the existing slab. When we can, we’ll use an Olympia-specific form. When the model is discontinued, which many are, a properly fitted aftermarket form with the same dimensions does the same job.

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Is Failing
- Water staining on the ceiling or walls around the firebox. A cracked crown lets rain and snowmelt run down between the flue tiles and the chimney’s outer shell. By the time it shows inside the house, the crown has usually been failing for a season or two.
- Chunks of concrete or mortar on the roof or in the gutter near the chimney. Las Vegas heat cycles are brutal on concrete crowns. Two hundred days of 100+ degree sun followed by cold desert nights causes expansion and contraction that spalls the top edges of an aging crown fast.
- The crown is pulling away from the flue tile. If you can see a gap wider than a dime between the flue and the crown, water’s already getting in. This is the single most common thing we find on Olympia chimneys in the Las Vegas Valley.
- Efflorescence on the chimney’s exterior above the roofline. That white, chalky staining is minerals leeching out of the masonry. It means water’s moving through the crown and evaporating.
- Rust on the damper assembly or damper hardware. Moisture from a failed crown drips straight down onto the damper and the firebox floor. If your damper is getting stiff or showing rust, the crown is usually letting water in from above.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Las Vegas, a full Olympia crown recast typically runs $500 – $900 for most residential chimneys. A partial repair, where we remove the damaged section and rebuild just that area with a matching crown mix, lands in the $350 – $550 range. The spread depends on roof access and what we’re working above. A single-story home in the northwest valley with an easy roof pitch is faster than a two-story chimney chase in Green Valley with a steep roofline and a tile roof we have to protect.
Every crown repair price we give is a written, line-item price before any work starts. The quote includes the demolition of the failing crown, the form and crown material, any necessary bonding agent, labor, and a full photo report of the finished work. The crown material we use on Olympia systems is a professional-grade crown mix, not standard mortar. Standard mortar is too porous for Las Vegas’s monsoon seasons and freeze-thaw cycles at elevation in the Spring Mountains. The crown needs to shed water, not absorb it. We also include a 365-Day Done Right Promise on every crown repair: if the repair fails within a full year, the second visit is free. That’s a written guarantee, not a handshake.

For a crown, the honest split is this: you can safely do the inspection part yourself, and we want you to. If you can safely get on the roof or see the chimney from a ladder, look for a gap between the flue tile and the crown, fractured edges, or a crown that looks like a cracked driveway. Take photos and send them to us. That will give us a decent starting point before we even arrive.
What we don’t recommend is a homeowner trying to recast a chimney crown cold. The access is the danger. You’re working at roof height with a bucket of material and moving around a chimney. It’s not like painting a wall. A fall from a single-story roof in Las Vegas changes someone’s life. And the actual crown work has real failure points: if the mix is wrong, if it goes on too thin, if the existing surface isn’t prepped right, the repair fails in one season and you’ve spent a weekend and a few hundred dollars to learn why chimney professionals don’t use box-store mortar on crowns. If you want to know what you’re working with, call us at (725) 227-7352 and we’ll talk it through. If it turns out you’d rather we handle it, we’ll get you scheduled.
FAQs
In the Las Vegas climate, a properly mixed and formed chimney crown typically lasts 15 to 25 years before it needs significant repair or replacement. A poorly done crown, or one built with standard mortar, can fail in as few as three to five years because our temperature swings and monsoon rains expose every flaw in the mix. The original crowns on many Olympia systems installed in the late 1990s and early 2000s are reaching the end of that lifespan right now, which is why we’re seeing so many calls for this repair across the Las Vegas Valley. Call (725) 227-7352 if you want one of our technicians to assess what’s left on your crown.
A crown with hairline cracking in one or two spots can often be repaired with a professional-grade crown coat sealant, which is a resurfacing product we apply over the full crown surface. If the crown is crumbling, pulling away from the flue tile, or showing gaps, a patch won’t hold. That needs a partial or full recast. The tell is whether the damage is superficial or structural. Surface cracks are sealant territory. Missing material or separation from the flue is recast territory. Ruben Castellano’s rule is simple: tell us what you’re seeing, and we’ll tell you straight what it means before we recommend any work.
Most Olympia crown repairs in Las Vegas take a single day, with a small number of larger recasts running into a second half-day depending on the weather. The material needs to cure, and in Las Vegas’s dry heat, cure times are faster than most of the country. We’ll tell you the exact schedule when we give you the written price.
We carry the most common Olympia-compatible crown forms and crown mix on our trucks at all times, so most crown repairs don’t require a second trip or a waiting period for parts. We also work with professional-grade trade materials from DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco, and we’ll tell you which product we’re using and why before any work happens. That’s the Threshold Standard and it applies to every job we run in the Las Vegas Valley.
