Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Olympia Chimney Chimney Cap Installation: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
A full Olympia Chimney chimney cap replacement in Las Vegas typically runs $280 to $560 installed, parts included, and most swaps take under an hour once we’re on the roof. If you have an Olympia Chimney cap that’s rusted through, blown loose in a windstorm, or pulling away from the flue tile, we stock the common sizes on the truck and can usually handle it same day. You’ll get a written price before we touch anything, so there’s no guessing.
Most Las Vegas homeowners discover the cap failed when they notice water staining on the ceiling near the fireplace, or when they spot rust flakes on the hearth after a windy week. Sometimes it’s the classic desert story: a monsoon gust took the lid clean off and left the raw flue tile open to the sky. Ruben Castellano has seen plenty of both across the Valley, and his rule is simple: if the cap isn’t doing its job, the flue is working harder than it should.
Which Olympia Chimney Models This Applies To
Olympia Chimney makes caps for both masonry chimneys with rectangular flue tiles and factory-built round flues in the 6-inch to 8-inch range. The most common Las Vegas installs are the Olympia cap with the standard expanded-mesh sides and a solid rolled-top lid, sized to match the outside flue tile dimensions, not the inside opening. That’s the most common mistake we see: a homeowner measures the inside of the flue, buys a cap that’s an inch too small, and it clamps on loose or catches wind like a sail.
Alcott Chimney Las Vegas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Olympia Chimney, but we stock and install their caps because they hold up to the desert sun better than most box-store units. The stainless steel options are the ones that last, and Olympia’s heavier-gauge mesh keeps birds and pack rats out, which matters more than you’d think in Las Vegas. We also carry quality aftermarket equivalents when the exact Olympia OEM part is backordered or overkill for a secondary flue, and Ruben will tell you plainly which one makes sense for your setup.

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
- Water staining on the ceiling or wall near the fireplace. A compromised cap lets rain fall straight down the flue, and it pools where the chimney meets the roof framing. In Las Vegas this shows up after the summer monsoon and the January cold fronts.
- Rust flakes or fine metal debris in the firebox. The mesh or lid is rusting from above and dropping fragments down the flue. Olympia caps with galvanized components will do this faster in our alkaline dust; stainless is the fix.
- The cap is gone or sitting crooked after a windstorm. The Mojave gust season from March through May regularly sends unsecured caps into a neighbor’s yard. If it’s clamped to the flue tile and that tile is chipped, the clamp won’t hold.
- You hear scratching or birds inside the chimney. That means the mesh is breached or the cap is loose enough for a gap. Sparrows, starlings, and pack rats all get into Las Vegas chimneys this way.
- The cap is leaning, and the chase cover or crown is cracking around the anchor points. The cap’s weight, plus wind flex, can crack the mortar crown it sits on. Once the crown cracks, water gets into the chimney structure itself.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Las Vegas you’re looking at $240 to $380 for the cap itself, depending on flue size and whether you go galvanized or stainless, plus $80 to $180 for the roof access and installation. We write the price down before starting, and if the flue tile is chipped or the crown needs a minor patch to anchor the cap properly, that’s quoted separately and you approve it before we touch it. No surprise charges on the back end, ever.
Every cap replacement comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the cap comes loose, leaks, or fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s a written guarantee on every repair, not a verbal one. You’ll also get a photo of the old cap and the new one in place, so you can see exactly what came off your chimney and what went back on.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things from the ground: whether you can see the cap at all, whether it’s sitting level, and whether there’s visible rust. But the actual swap means getting on the roof, and that’s where we draw the line for a reason. Chimney access on Las Vegas homes routinely involves two-story rooflines, clay or concrete roof tiles that crack under foot traffic, and flue edges that are sharp enough to take a finger off if you slip.
If you’re comfortable with a ladder and a tube of sealant, you might manage a ground-accessible single-story cap. Most people aren’t, and that’s fine. It’s our roof to fall off of, not yours. Call (725) 227-7352, tell us what you’re seeing, and we’ll give you a straight answer.
FAQs
A stainless Olympia cap on a Las Vegas chimney typically lasts 15 to 20 years, while galvanized caps often rust through in 8 to 12 because of our alkaline dust and intense UV exposure. If the cap is checked during an annual sweep, you’ll get early warning before it fails completely. Call (725) 227-7352 to schedule a cap inspection with your next sweep.
Small pinhole rust can sometimes be patched, but once the mesh has torn or the lid has rusted through, a patch buys you only a season or two and we won’t sell you a repair that won’t last. In that case, replacement is the honest call. Tell us what your cap looks like and Ruben will give it to you straight.
Most Olympia cap replacements take 45 to 75 minutes once the technician is on the roof, including removing the old cap, brushing the flue edge clean, and anchoring and sealing the new cap. We schedule arrivals by name and photo in advance, so you’ll know exactly who’s showing up before the truck pulls into your driveway.
We stock the most common Olympia cap sizes for 6-inch, 7-inch, and 8-inch round flues and standard rectangular flue tiles on the truck, so most Las Vegas customers don’t wait on a parts order. If your flue is an unusual size, we can measure and order the correct Olympia cap, typically arriving within a few days. Call (725) 227-7352 for a free estimate and we’ll tell you what’s available for your chimney.
