Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Gelco Flue Liner Replacement: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
If your Gelco flue liner is cracked, rusted through, or showing signs of separation, we can typically replace it in one visit. Expect to pay between $950 and $2,200 installed in Las Vegas, depending on the liner diameter, run length, and how difficult the existing liner is to pull. Most Gelco liner replacements we do are completed same-day, since we stock common sizes on the truck and don’t need to order and re-schedule.
Most homeowners discover their Gelco liner has failed during an inspection, or because they see rust flakes at the base of the fireplace, smell odors backing into the room, or notice the liner looks wavy and distorted from below or above. Sometimes it’s the connector or tee that went first, and the liner itself is still salvageable. That’s why we camera the full flue before recommending any replacement – you’ll see exactly what we see.
Which Gelco Models This Applies To
Gelco has manufactured stainless steel chimney liners and components for years, and the brand is still widely used across older Las Vegas homes. Most Gelco liners we replace fall into two categories: the smooth-wall rigid liner sections, and the flexible corrugated liner kits used for fireplace inserts and gas appliances. The part numbers usually start with a “GL” prefix followed by the diameter in inches, but the label on older liners is often burned off or illegible after years of use.
The practical way to identify what you have is by measuring the inside diameter of the flue and the length of the run. We carry replacement sections for 5-inch through 8-inch Gelco liners, plus connectors, tees, caps, and couplings. If your liner has the original Gelco ID plate still attached, bring a photo to the phone call – it helps. One compatibility gotcha with Gelco specifically: their flexible liner kits use a proprietary coupling style, so a generic aftermarket connector won’t always mate cleanly with an existing Gelco tee. We stock Gelco-compatible components manufactured to the same spec, so you’re not forced into buying a full OEM kit for a simple section replacement.

Signs Your Gelco Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Rust flakes or staining at the base of the firebox. This often means the liner has developed pinholes and condensation is running down the inside wall. In Las Vegas, our dry climate slows corrosion, but once moisture from combustion gets trapped against the liner wall, the damage feeds itself.
- Smoke or odor backing into the room. A cracked liner no longer contains smoke the way it should, and backdrafting becomes more likely. If you notice a campfire smell in the house even when you haven’t burned anything in days, that’s worth a camera inspection.
- Visible distortion or waviness in the liner. Stainless liners can warp after repeated thermal cycling, especially if previous owners burned hot fires with green wood. Once the walls wave, those high points are where cracks start.
- Loose or separated sections you can see from the top. If you look down the flue with a flashlight and see gaps between liner sections, that’s a separation failure. Combustion gases and embers can escape through those gaps into the chimney cavity.
- Fine metal particles or “sand” in the firebox. This is usually corrosion shedding from the liner interior, and it’s common on liners that have passed the 15-year mark in Las Vegas heat, especially on south-facing chimneys that endure extreme roof-level temperatures.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Las Vegas, a Gelco flue liner replacement typically runs between $950 and $2,200 installed. The biggest cost drivers are the liner length (a two-story chimney with a 25-foot run costs more than a single-story 15-foot run), the diameter, and whether the existing liner is fused to the flue wall from years of creosote and expansion. If the tee or connector also needs replacing, that adds $150 to $300 depending on the size.
As part of every job, we provide a written price before any work begins – no surprise charges if we find something unexpected mid-job. Every liner replacement is covered by our written guarantee, and if the repair fails, the second visit is free. We install Gelco-compatible materials along with DuraFlex and HeatShield components when the application calls for them, and we’ll show you the camera footage of what the liner looked like before and after. We don’t recommend work without evidence you can see yourself.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a flue liner means working from the roof, handling stainless steel sections that can weigh 40 pounds or more, and pulling materials up through a chimney chase. That’s before you get into the sealants, the couplings, and making sure the new liner is properly supported. A liner that shifts after installation is worse than the one you replaced, because it can block the flue entirely and send carbon monoxide into the house.
What you can safely do from the ground is look for the signs above – rust flakes, odors, visible warping from the firebox. You can also call us at (725) 227-7352 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll ask for a few measurements and can often give you a rough price over the phone before we even send a technician. If it’s clear the liner is beyond saving, we’ll tell you straight. If what you’re seeing is actually just a dirty chimney that needs a sweep, we’ll tell you that too – and save you the cost of a liner you didn’t need.
FAQs
A Gelco stainless liner in a Las Vegas chimney typically lasts 15 to 25 years. The desert climate helps in some ways – less rain-driven corrosion than coastal cities – but extreme roof-level heat, rapid temperature swings between day and night, and years of creosote buildup all shorten that lifespan. If your liner is over 15 years old and you’re seeing rust flakes or hearing loose metal rattle in high wind, it’s time for a camera inspection. Call (725) 227-7352 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
Sometimes yes, if the failure is isolated to a single section or a connector, and if the surrounding liner walls still have structural integrity. That’s why we camera the full flue before recommending anything. If the damage is limited, we’ll replace just that section with a Gelco-compatible component. If the liner walls are thin, cracked in multiple places, or the sections have separated, patching is a waste of your money. We’ll show you the camera footage either way, and you decide with full information.
Most Gelco liner replacements in Las Vegas take between 2 and 4 hours from start to finish. That includes removing the old liner, cleaning the flue interior, installing the new liner and fittings, and doing a final test burn or draft check. Taller chimneys and fused liners can stretch toward 6 hours, but we don’t leave until the job is camera-verified and the work area is clean.
We stock Gelco-compatible liners in the common diameters – 5, 6, 7, and 8 inches – along with the connectors, tees, and caps to match. That means we can often complete the replacement same-day without a second visit. If you have an unusual size or a specialty configuration, we’ll tell you at the time you call, not after the technician arrives. For an exact quote, call (725) 227-7352 and we’ll walk you through it.
