Famco Gas Fireplace Repair in Las Vegas: What to Know First
Famco gas fireplace repair in Las Vegas typically runs $175 – $480 for most jobs, with common repairs like thermocouple replacement, pilot assembly work, or valve service landing between $200 and $350. We’re an independent Famco service provider, so we fix what’s actually broken rather than steering you toward a new unit. Most Famco repairs we complete the same day we diagnose, assuming parts are on our truck or available locally.
If you own a Famco fireplace and it’s acting up, this page covers what we see most often in Las Vegas homes, what it costs, and how we make sure the fix holds. Ruben Castellano and our team at Alcott Chimney Las Vegas have worked on Famco units across the Valley for years, and we’ll give you a straight answer before we ever touch a wrench. Call (725) 227-7352 for a free estimate.
- Typical repair cost: $175 – $480 depending on the failed component
- Most common Famco issues we fix: pilot light won’t stay lit, wall switch stops working, burner won’t ignite, excessive sooting on glass
- Who this page is for: Las Vegas homeowners with a Famco gas fireplace that’s unreliable, noisy, or completely dead
- What we’re not: a manufacturer-authorized service center. We’re independent, so we don’t answer to Famco’s warranty constraints, we answer to you.
How Famco Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- Pilot assembly failure on older Famco units. Famco fireplaces installed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, especially models built around the builder-grade housing boom in places like Summerlin and Green Valley, often have pilot assemblies that simply wear out. What happens: the pilot light won’t stay lit even after a good cleaning because the thermocouple has finally degraded past the point of generating enough millivolts to hold the gas valve open. Our fix: replace the pilot assembly with a quality OEM or equivalent aftermarket part, then test the millivolt output under load before calling it done.
- Wall switch and thermostat wiring ghosts on Famco millivolt systems. A Famco unit controlled by a simple wall switch runs on millivolt current – about 0.25 to 0.75 volts, roughly the output of a hearing aid battery. That signal is fragile. In Las Vegas, where drywall dust, years of thermostat wire oxidation in the attic heat, and electrical interference from nearby appliances are common, we see Famco fireplaces that click but won’t fire because the switch leg has so much resistance the gas valve never gets the signal. Our fix: test continuity and voltage drop on the switch circuit, replace corroded wire or the switch itself, and properly clean the connections – a job many fireplaces need after a decade or more in the desert air.
- Thermopile failure on Famco units with fans or remotes. If your Famco has a remote or a blower, it likely has a thermopile instead of a standalone thermocouple. Thermopiles on Famco units that get frequent use in cooler months, say November through February in Las Vegas, gradually lose output. When that output drops below about 325 millivolts open circuit, the unit starts behaving erratically: flame cuts out mid-cycle, remote commands don’t respond, or the burner won’t fire at all. Our fix: measure output, replace the thermopile when it’s below spec, and confirm the gas valve is still receiving the voltage it needs at the connector, not just at the thermopile itself.
- Burner ports clogged with Las Vegas dust. One of the most common Famco repairs we do in Las Vegas is a thorough burner cleaning. Fireplaces draw combustion air from the room, and the fine alkaline dust that settles into a Vegas home’s air finds its way into the burner tube and ports. Result: lazy orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, sooting on the ceramic glass, and sometimes a smell like burnt dust whenever the fireplace runs. We see this frequently in homes near the edges of the Valley, toward Red Rock or Sunrise Mountain, where construction dust and wind are constant. Our fix: pull the burner, clean each port, verify the air shutter setting, and reassemble. This often resolves weak flames without buying a single part.
- Gas valve that won’t hold or regulate pressure. On Famco fireplaces that sit unused through the long Las Vegas summer, internal valve components can stick or degrade from heat cycling in unconditioned rooms. Symptoms include a burner that lights but then drops out, or a flame that never gets to full height regardless of the setting. Our fix: confirm inlet and manifold gas pressures with a manometer, and if the valve is the problem, replace it with the correct Famco-spec valve – this is a component where we stay strictly with OEM or a direct manufacturer-approved substitute, never a generic appliance valve.

Our Famco Gas Fireplace Repair Process
- 1
You call and describe what the fireplace is doing. A live person answers. Tell us the symptom – pilot won’t stay lit, glass soots up, switch does nothing – and we’ll give you a rough sense of what it could be and a pre-visit price for the diagnostic call.
- 2
We confirm your unit and any history. If you know the model number or have the original manual, great. If not, no problem – our techs can identify most Famco units from the gas valve, burner configuration, and vent style.
- 3
On-site diagnosis with real measurements. We check gas pressure with a manometer, measure millivolt output on the pilot circuit, test the switch leg for resistance, and visually inspect the burner, pilot, valve, and venting. You get a clear explanation of what’s failed and why.
- 4
Written price before any repair. We hand you a written estimate with the exact line-item parts and labor. Nothing gets done until you say go. If the unit is so far gone that a new fireplace makes more sense than a repair, we’ll tell you that too, and we won’t pad it in either direction.
- 5
The repair, with parts that match. For Famco units we use factory-spec OEM parts or manufacturer-approved equivalents from trade suppliers – the same sources the pros use. For gas valves and safety components, we don’t substitute generics.
- 6
Test fire, cleanup, and written guarantee. We fire the unit, verify flame pattern and operation, check for gas leaks at every joint we touched, wipe down the glass and trim, and leave you with a written guarantee. If the repair fails within the guarantee period, the second visit is free.

AfterWhat Famco Gas Fireplace Repair Costs in Las Vegas
Here’s what we typically see for Famco-specific repairs in Las Vegas:
- Diagnostic service call: $79 – $129, applied toward the repair if you proceed
- Thermocouple replacement: $175 – $250
- Thermopile replacement: $225 – $325
- Pilot assembly replacement: $250 – $350
- Burner cleaning and adjustment: $150 – $225
- Gas valve replacement: $350 – $480
- Full fireplace inspection during repair: Included with every repair
What moves the price: which component failed, how old the unit is, and whether we need to chase down an obsolete part. Some older Famco valves are no longer manufactured, so replacement means sourcing a cross-referenced unit or rebuilding the existing valve – that takes more time. You’ll always know the number before we start. Call (725) 227-7352 for an exact quote – estimates are free.
Why Las Vegas Homeowners Call Alcott Chimney Las Vegas for Famco Work
We’ve been serving Las Vegas homes since 2002, and Famco fireplaces have been in our wheelhouse the whole time. Ruben Castellano and our techs know these units not from a catalog but from hundreds of diagnostics – the weak millivolt circuits, the dust-choked burners, the valves that bake through the desert summer and refuse to cooperate when the nights finally turn cold in November. When we fix a Famco, we fix the actual cause, not the symptom.
Every repair includes a written guarantee – if it fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it applies to the whole job, not just the part. You’ll also know who’s coming: each technician passes a background check and identity verification through the Threshold Standard, and we send you their name and photo before they arrive. They’ll show a photo ID badge at the door. No exceptions. If your Famco needs more than a repair, we also work with DuraFlex liner systems, HeatShield resurfacing, and Gelco products, so we can handle the chimney itself as well.
FAQs
No – we’re an independent Famco service provider, not a warranty station. If your Famco is still under manufacturer warranty, we can diagnose the issue and give you documentation to submit to Famco, but the warranty claim itself goes through them. For out-of-warranty units, we’re often the faster option because we don’t wait on a manufacturer’s approval process.
Most Famco repairs in Las Vegas we schedule within a few business days, and many can be done same week. We don’t promise same-day dispatch because diagnosis and parts sourcing are honest variables, but we do answer the phone live around the clock. Call (725) 227-7352 and we’ll get you on the schedule fast.
We use OEM Famco parts whenever they’re available, and manufacturer-approved equivalents from trade suppliers when they’re not. On safety components – gas valves, pilot assemblies, thermocouples – we don’t install no-name generics. If you’d like exact part numbers and brands before we start, just ask, and we’ll show you what’s going in.
If the unit is less than 15 years old and the burned-out component is a thermocouple, thermopile, or pilot assembly, repair almost always makes sense – those are wear items. If the valve has failed on a 25-year-old Famco and the firebox or venting also needs attention, replacement starts to look smarter. We’ll give you the straight math either way and won’t push you toward a new unit if a $200 fix restores it to safe, reliable operation.
A sooting, poorly burning Famco burner can be a real safety issue. Incomplete combustion produces carbon monoxide, and a fireplace with clogged ports and a misadjusted air shutter can push that into your living space. If your Famco glass gets black quickly, flames burn orange instead of blue, or you smell gas or a burnt odor when it runs, shut it down and call us at (725) 227-7352. This is one of those times where a $200 cleaning beats an emergency call later.
