HeatShield Chimney Inspection in Las Vegas: What to Know First
A HeatShield chimney inspection in Las Vegas typically runs $189 to $389 depending on the level of inspection and whether we’re running a camera into the flue. Most inspections take 45 to 90 minutes, and we walk you through everything we find with photos in hand before you decide on any repair. That’s the short answer. If you own a HeatShield liner system or are considering one, a trained eye matters more than a quick visual once-over.
This page is for homeowners who have a HeatShield resurfacing system installed and want to know it’s holding up, or who are weighing HeatShield against a full liner replacement and need straight answers before spending real money. Ruben Castellano and our crew inspect HeatShield systems all over the Las Vegas Valley, from Summerlin to Henderson to Centennial Hills. Call (725) 227-7352 and a live person answers, day or night.
How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
HeatShield’s Cerfractory sealant is a legitimate product, and when installed correctly it does what it’s designed to do. But we’ve been inside enough Las Vegas chimneys to know where it strains. Here’s what we actually see in the field:
- Flaking and delamination at the smoke shelf. HeatShield’s Cerfractory material bonds to the flue wall, but the smoke shelf area takes the worst of the heat cycling and creosote contact. In Las Vegas, where a chimney can sit unused from May to October and then get hammered with fires from November through February, the expansion and contraction cycle is brutal. We find small spalls and hairline separations here more than anywhere else, and it’s why our HeatShield inspections include a close camera pass on the smoke shelf specifically.
- Joint-line cracking between HeatShield’s sections. The system is applied in coats, and the seams are its natural weak point. After five or six years, especially in older masonry chimneys that shift, we see hairline fissures forming where coats overlap. Not a catastrophic failure, but it’s where water and flue gases start finding their way into the brick. Our fix is a targeted resurfacing pass that matches the existing HeatShield profile, not a patch job with a mismatched compound.
- Surface pitting from sulfur and moisture exposure. Las Vegas doesn’t get much rain, but when it does, it tends to come hard and fast. Chimneys without proper caps pull in that moisture, and HeatShield’s Cerfractory surface can develop small pits where moisture and flue-gas sulfur meet. It’s a slow process, but we catch it early with a Level 2 camera inspection. Left alone, those pits connect and become a real pathway for heat to reach the masonry.
- Improper previous application from an unverified installer. This is the one that frustrates us most. We routinely inspect HeatShield work done by someone who didn’t prep the flue properly or applied the material too thin. The symptoms look like HeatShield product failure, but the cause is installation error. We identify the difference by measuring coating thickness in multiple spots and checking adhesion with a probe. Then we give you a straight answer: whether it’s a re-application or a different approach altogether.
- Discoloration that mimics cracking. HeatShield darkens with use, and sometimes that’s all it is. A heat-stained surface isn’t a structural problem, but it looks alarming through a basic scope. We’d rather show you the camera feed and explain the difference than sell you a repair you don’t need. That’s why our inspections include a real-time explanation, not just a report dropped in your inbox.

Our HeatShield Chimney Inspection Process
Here’s exactly what happens when you call us for a HeatShield inspection in Las Vegas:
- 1
You call (725) 227-7352. A live person answers, takes your information, and books a time that works for you. Before the technician arrives, you get their name and photo sent to your phone so you know who’s at the door.
- 2
The technician checks in with a photo ID badge. Every Alcott technician is background-checked and identity-verified under the Threshold Standard. They’ll show the badge without being asked.
- 3
We run the appropriate inspection level. For most HeatShield systems, that’s a Level 2 inspection, which includes a camera run through the full flue. We’re looking at the Cerfractory surface, the smoke shelf, the crown, the cap, and every joint along the way.
- 4
You see what we see. We bring you the camera feed in real time. Ruben’s crew has a habit of pointing at the screen and explaining exactly what’s there, whether it’s clean and sound or needs attention.
- 5
We hand you a written price before any work starts. If a repair is needed, the quote itemizes it line by line. No surprise charges, no pressure, no “while we’re in there” add-ons.
- 6
Repairs get a written guarantee. Every HeatShield repair we complete is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free. That’s in writing.

AfterWhat HeatShield Chimney Inspection Costs in Las Vegas
Expect a Level 1 visual inspection to run $189 to $249. A Level 2 camera inspection, which is what we recommend for any HeatShield system that hasn’t been looked at in the last two years, runs $289 to $389. If we’re doing a Level 3 inspection, which involves partial demolition to access hidden sections of the flue, that’s a different job entirely and we’ll give you a written scope and price before anything gets touched.
What moves the price? Roof access difficulty, chimney height, and whether your flue has bends that slow down the camera run. A standard two-story Las Vegas home with a straight flue is on the lower end. A steep-pitched roof in Summerlin or McNeil Estates will add time and cost. Repairs are quoted separately after the inspection, and you’ll always see the number before you commit. Call (725) 227-7352 for a free estimate on an inspection, and you’ll get the exact price before we even schedule.
Why Las Vegas Homeowners Call Alcott Chimney Las Vegas for HeatShield Work
We’re independent. That matters when the product you own has a manufacturer’s warranty that you’d rather not void. As an independent HeatShield service provider, we’re not tied to a sales quota or a territory mark-up. We’ll tell you plainly when HeatShield is the right repair and when a DuraFlex liner replacement makes more sense. Sometimes the HeatShield system is sound and all it needs is a proper cleaning. We’ll say that too.
Since 2002, we’ve been in Las Vegas homes running inspections and repairs the way Ruben Castellano learned to do it years ago: show the customer what’s wrong, explain what it means, and give a number before any work starts. Every technician who shows up at your door is background-checked, identity-verified, and sent to you by name and photo. The 365-Day Done Right Promise backs every repair in writing. And if something smells like smoke at 11 p.m., a live person picks up the phone. Every time.
FAQs
No. An inspection by an independent service provider does not void a HeatShield manufacturer’s warranty. What can void it is an improper repair or application by someone who doesn’t know the system. We document everything with photos and notes, so you have a clear record for any future warranty claim.
With proper installation and regular inspection, a HeatShield Cerfractory resurfacing can last 10 to 15 years in Las Vegas conditions. The wildcard is moisture and thermal cycling. Homes that run wood fires heavily through winter and sit dormant all summer put more stress on the material. That’s why an annual or bi-annual inspection is worth it, especially in older masonry chimneys. We’ll tell you when it’s time and when it can wait.
Usually within a few days. If you’re buying or selling a home and need it done before closing, we’ll work with your timeline and get the report to you promptly. Call (725) 227-7352 and we’ll give you the next available slots straight away.
We repair HeatShield systems regularly. Targeted resurfacing, joint sealing, and spot treatments are all options when the underlying flue is sound. Replacement only makes sense when the damage is extensive or the original installation was done poorly. We’ll show you the camera evidence so you understand exactly why we’re recommending one path over the other.
A Level 1 is a visual check of the accessible parts, from the firebox to the top of the flue. A Level 2 adds a camera run through the full interior and is what we recommend for any HeatShield system that hasn’t been inspected recently, or any time you’re buying or selling a Las Vegas home. The camera sees what the naked eye can’t, especially at the smoke shelf and behind bends.
