Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
HeatShield Chimney Sweep in Las Vegas: What to Know First
A HeatShield chimney sweep in Las Vegas typically runs $189 to $329, and most jobs are completed in 90 minutes to two hours. We schedule within 3 to 5 business days, and every visit includes a camera inspection of the flue so you see exactly what we see before any repair is recommended. Call (725) 227-7352 and a live person answers, day or night.
If you own a home with a HeatShield resurfaced flue, you already made a smart investment. What you need now is a sweep company that knows how to clean that surface without damaging it and how to spot early signs that the HeatShield coating itself is wearing out. That’s exactly what we do. Ruben Castellano has been running chimney inspections and cleanings across the Las Vegas Valley for over a decade, and we have worked on more HeatShield systems than we can count, including plenty of homes near Summerlin where wood-burning fireplaces get used more than people expect in the desert.
How HeatShield Products Fail, and How We Fix Them
HeatShield is a cerfractory sealant, a ceramic-cement material applied to the inside of a flue to fill cracks, gaps, and spalling. It works well, but it is not indestructible. These are the failure modes we see most often in Las Vegas homes:
- Hairline cracking in the HeatShield coating itself. HeatShield is rated for high temperatures, but Las Vegas flues see wild swings: a 40-degree winter night followed by a fire the next evening, then 110-degree summer days with no use at all. That thermal cycling causes micro-cracks in the coating over time. During a sweep, we run a camera up the flue and check for those cracks. If we find them, we document them with photos and tell you plainly whether it is cosmetic or needs re-coating.
- Creosote bonding to the textured HeatShield surface. HeatShield is not a perfectly smooth surface like stainless steel. The coating has a slight texture, and creosote, the tar-like byproduct of wood smoke, can grip into its pores. A standard brush sweep gets most of it, but we use soft poly brushes and controlled vacuum pressure on HeatShield-lined flues rather than aggressive steel-bristle scrubbing that can score the coating.
- Water intrusion at the crown or flashing, which undermines the HeatShield bond. This is the one that surprises homeowners. If water seeps through a cracked crown or failing flashing and saturates the masonry behind the HeatShield coating, the coating can lose adhesion and flake off. We check the crown, flashing, and rain cap on every visit, not just the flue interior. It saves you from a coating failure down the road.
- Original damage showing through because the surface prep was incomplete. Not every HeatShield job we see was applied by a contractor who prepped the flue properly. If the original cracks were not cleaned out and filled correctly before the coating was applied, you will eventually see ghosting: a faint outline of the original crack appearing through the new surface. During a sweep, we look for those shadow lines and measure their depth with the camera.
- Flaking or delamination near the flue cap or mid-flue bends. This shows up most often on flues with offsets or bends. The HeatShield material can delaminate in those transition areas because the surface was not keyed evenly during application. If we spot flaking, we do not scrape at it. We map the section, photograph it, and consult with you about whether HeatShield touch-up or a more involved fix is warranted.
Styles & brands we work with

Our HeatShield Chimney Sweep Process
- 1
You call (725) 227-7352. A live person answers, asks about your fireplace and any symptoms you have noticed: smoke smell, slow drafting, black flakes falling. We book a window that works and send you the technician’s name and photo before the truck arrives.
- 2
We arrive and lay down drop cloths from the door to the hearth. The technician shows a photo ID badge at the door, every time. Your floors and furniture stay covered through the entire job.
- 3
We run a camera up the flue before any sweeping happens. This is the step most companies skip. On a HeatShield-lined flue, it matters more than on a basic masonry flue. We need to see the condition of the coating before we put a brush to it. You see that camera feed too, on a live screen.
- 4
We sweep with soft poly brushes sized to your flue, paired with a high-volume HEPA vacuum. No open sweep mess. The vacuum runs the whole time, pulling creosote and soot out of the flue rather than letting it settle in your firebox.
- 5
After the sweep, we run the camera again. Side-by-side with the pre-sweep footage, there is no question about what was removed. If we find a coating issue, we show you the image, tell you straight whether it can wait or needs attention, and give you a written price for any repair before we schedule anything.
- 6
We clean the firebox, vacuum the hearth, and remove every trace of our work. Before we leave, we recap what we found in plain English and hand you a written report. Every repair we do carries a written guarantee, and if it fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free. That is the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it is not an upsell.

- Level 2 camera inspection (real estate, or post-sweep on a suspect flue): $149 to $199, added to the sweep

Why Las Vegas Homeowners Call Alcott Chimney Las Vegas for HeatShield Work
Most chimney companies in Las Vegas will sweep any flue you put in front of them. Few of them treat a HeatShield-lined flue differently than a raw masonry flue, and that is where a good coating gets damaged. We treat it differently because Ruben Castellano has seen enough HeatShield jobs to know what the coating can and cannot take. He will tell you straight what you are seeing, and what it means.
You will know the technician’s name and see their photo before we arrive. That is the Threshold Standard, and it is non-negotiable. Every technician is background-checked, identity-verified, uniformed, and announced before the visit. And if you have another brand in the flue, we work with those too: DuraFlex liner systems and Gelco products are part of our regular service line. The guarantee stays the same on all of it.
FAQs
No, a professional chimney sweep does not void a HeatShield warranty. In fact, HeatShield’s own documentation assumes regular chimney sweeping as part of proper maintenance. What can void a warranty is using a contractor who damages the coating through aggressive cleaning or neglect. We use soft poly brushes and camera verification specifically to protect the HeatShield surface. As an independent HeatShield service provider, we do not speak for the manufacturer, but we clean to the standard the warranty expects.
When a flue needs recoating, we use HeatShield cerfractory material. Not a knockoff. The OEM material is engineered for flue temperatures and thermal cycling, and the aftermarket equivalents do not hold up the same way in Las Vegas heat. We are an independent provider, not an authorized HeatShield dealer, but we install the real product because it is what protects your home.
Yes, and that is exactly what the camera inspection shows. During the sweep we inspect the full flue length and look for hairline cracks, delamination, ghosting from the original masonry damage, and water intrusion from the crown or flashing. You will see the camera feed live. If the coating is holding up, we tell you that. If it is not, we show you the image and give you a written price for the right fix. Call (725) 227-7352 to schedule an inspection, and we will walk you through everything we find.
Signs you need a sweep include black flakes falling into the firebox, a smoky smell when the fireplace is not in use, a fire that burns sluggish, or visible shiny creosote on the damper. Signs you may need a repair include chunks of HeatShield coating showing up in the firebox or a persistent smoke-back smell even after a sweep. We will tell you which one you are dealing with before we recommend anything, and the camera footage backs it up.
Yes. We run HeatShield chimney sweeps all over the Las Vegas Valley: Summerlin, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Centennial Hills, Spring Valley, and the surrounding communities. Wherever you are in the valley, you will get the same live answer on the phone, the same name-and-photo preview of your technician, and the same written guarantee on every repair.
Tell me what you’re seeing, and I’ll tell you straight what it means. If your HeatShield flue has not been swept this season, call (725) 227-7352 today. We will give you a free estimate over the phone and schedule a sweep before the burning season gets busy.
